Most are guys: ladies have would in general be associates, however recently they are getting increasingly forceful. PC Criminals will in general for the most part be between the ages of 14-30, they are typically splendid, energetic, profoundly energetic, daring, and ready to acknowledge specialized challenges.(Shannon, 16:2) It is enticing to compare PC crooks to different hoodlums, crediting qualities by one way or another not the same as would be expected people, yet that isn't the situation. Meanings of PC wrongdoing has changed throughout the years as the clients and misusers of PCs have ventured into new regions. At the point when PCs were first brought into organizations, PC wrongdoing was characterized basically as a type of desk wrongdoing submitted inside a PC framework. (2600:Summer 92,p.13) Some new terms have been added to the PC criminal jargon. Trojan Horse is a concealed code placed into a PC program. Rationale bombs are embedded with the goal that the culprit doesnt need to genuinely introduce oneself. (Phrack 12,p.43) Another type of a shrouded code is salamis. It originated from the enormous salami portions sold in stores years prior. Frequently individuals would take little parts of nibbles that were removed from them and afterward they were subtly come back to the racks in the expectations that nobody would see them missing. (Phrack 12,p.44) Congress has been responding to the flare-up of PC violations. The U.S. Place of Judiciary Committee affirmed a bipartisan PC wrongdoing charge that was extended to make it a felony to hack into credit and other information bases secured by government protection statutes.(Markoff, B 13:1) This bill is by and large making a few classifications of bureaucratic offense crimes for unapproved access to PCs to acquire cash, merchandise or administrations or grouped data. This likewise applies to PCs utilized by the national government or utilized in interstate of outside trade which would cover any framework got to by interstate media transmission frameworks. PC wrongdoing frequently requires a bigger number of sophistications than individuals acknowledge it. (Sullivan, 40:4) Many U.S. organizations have wound up in chapter 11 court uninformed that they have been deceived by disappointed representatives. American organizations wishes that the PC security bad dream would evaporate like a fantasy. Data handling has developed into an enormous industry. It represented $33 billion in administrations in 1983, and in 1988 it was accounted to be $88 billion. (Blumenthal, B 1:2) All this data is helpless against voracious representatives, intrusive youngsters and general lack of regard, yet nobody knows whether the ocean of PC violations is just as large as the Gulf of Mexico or as enormous as the North Atlantic. (Blumenthal,B 1:2) Vulnerability is probably going to increment later on. Singes Scandal of 90's Essay Management regularly looks the other way when workers play PC games or produce a Snoopy schedule. Be that as it may, if this becomes unnecessary the representatives is taking work time. Furthermore, PCs can unfortunately process just a limited number of errands without a moment's delay. Albeit considered less extreme than other PC violations such exercises can speak to a significant business misfortune. While most consideration is as of now being given to the criminal parts of PC manhandles, all things considered, common activity will have a similarly significant impact on long haul security problems.(Alexander, V119) The issue of PC wrongdoings cause to notice the common or obligation perspectives in figuring situations. Later on there may will in general be increasingly individual and class activity suits. End, PC wrongdoings are quick and developing on the grounds that the advancement of innovation is quick, yet the development of law is moderate. While an assortment of states have passed enactment identifying with PC wrongdoing, the circumstance is a national issue that requires a national arrangement. Controls can be established inside businesses to forestall such violations. Security estimates, for example, equipment recognizable proof, get to controls programming and detaching basic bank applications ought to be formulated. Be that as it may, PCs dont carry out wrongdoings; individuals do. The culprits best bit of leeway is numbness with respect to those securing the framework. Legitimate inward controls lessen the open door for extortion. BibliographyBIBLIOGRAPHYAlexander, Charles, Crackdown on Computer Capers, Time, Feb. 8, 1982, V119. Transgender individuals are much the same as every other person on the planet and have the right to be dealt with similarly to cisgendered individuals, or individuals who distinguish as the sex they were given during childbirth. As thought by Sam Killermann (a comedian and social justice advocate), being transgender means living as an individual from a sexual orientation other than that normal dependent on sex doled out during childbirth. Our writers will create an original "Being A Transgender In America" essay for you Create order Sexual orientation is viewed as a range, and one can fall anyplace on this range. Once more, as indicated by Sam Killermann, being transgender means living as an individual from a sexual orientation other than that normal dependent on sex allocated during childbirth. There are a lot a larger number of sexes than simply the one relegated during childbirth. Because a man is brought into the world with male genitalia does not mean they must be male. There are a wide range of gender characters and impartial restrooms influence something beyond transgender individuals. Individuals who are not transgender additionally experience difficulty with regards to restrooms. For instance, somebody who is sex liquid is depicted to feel like a blend of the two conventional sexual orientations, however may feel more man some days, and more lady different days. (Killermann). It is exceptionally troublesome for individuals who dont go as an explicit sexual orientation to utilize the bathroom out in the open. This isnt an issue exclusively felt by transgendered individuals. LGBTQ individuals have confronted unfairness and separation and have been battling for their rights for quite a long time to defeat partiality against them which they have at last gotten in 2015. LGBTQ indivudals had remained to a great extent quiet and concealed in American culture until World War II finished. A large number of them shrouded their bizarre sexual introduction from the general public out of disgrace and dread. Homosexuals who lived in urban areas regularly framed close informal organizations with different homosexuals while remaining a shrouded subculture. Amid the 1950s, LGBTQ Americans earned numerous opportunities they had not recently gotten. Their essence turned out to be all the more free-streaming yet at the same time not broadly acknowledged. Amidst 1950s, victimization the LGBTQ community began to extend, they have been kicked out of their occupations due to their sexual introduction. Also, the homosexual way of life was considered as a danger to Amer ican security during the 1960s as gay and lesbian were being bugged or struck around then. Notwithstanding, it was the defining moment for the LGBTQ people group in 1969 when the Stonewall riots broke out. One thing the gay rights development encouraged the world is the significance of being noticeable.Charles M. Blow. The LGBTQ individual groups have rights to live regularly the same amount of as individuals who are not in the LGBTQ group. Most homosexual people are loathed and treated contrastingly as a result of their sexuality. There will never be a comprehension of for what reason a few people to be so disgusting and homophobic. There is a lot of history of LGBTQ brutality, and everything had begun back similarly as the 1930s amid the Holocaust. For some years, LGBTQ individuals have been separated in light of their sexual introduction. There are guardians who encourage their kids to look down on homosexuality and that it is seen as unnatural. Be that as it may, that was previously, now the new age is as yet developing so they settle on their own choices: The current study examined demographics, sexual orientation, gender characteristics, and gender minority stress and their association to excessive alcohol, cannabis, and illicit (non cannabis) drug use among 1210 transgender adults living in the United States (Gonzalez). This age is more receptive and all the more tolerating to new thoughts. LGBTQ individuals ought to have the capacity to live with indistinguishable equivalent rights from everybody in America since this is the nation considered. What is it exactly that characterizes our sex? Is it the way that we were brought into the world with certain private parts? Or then again that our folks dressed us in the colors blue or pink to define our macuality and feminity? Is our sex characterized by the toys we played with as kids and the interests we had as youthful grown-ups? While a large portion of us distinguish as the sexual orientation we were conceived as, more than one million individuals in the only us confess to being transgender. Transgender is an umbrella term that alludes to those with personalities that traverse. We hold these certainties to act naturally obvious, that all men are made equivalent, that they are supplied by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the quest for Happiness. The Constitution was composed on July 4, 1776 and here we are presently, in 2018, and people are still out in the world not being able to be themselves in their workplaces, or getting fired because they had to lie on their applications. And let us not forget how our current President attempted to try and ban transgender individuals from joining the military. Individuals in America ought to have the capacity to seek after satisfaction and inside this correct they ought to have the capacity to pick what they need to do, regardless of whether it be with their life, body and whatever else they are in control of. Whatever individuals do with what they have is no business of any other individuals except if it encroaches upon another Americans Constitutional rights straig htforwardly. That being said, if ladies wed ladies, men wed men or if a man or lady does not feel like they should be the sex they were brought into the world with, at that point who is any other person to state what they may or may not be able to with their life? Every individual is qualified for their own conviction, however people ought not enable it to influence how they function or carry on with their regular day to day existence. Americans are frequently observed as a reference point of opportunity yet are the general population really free? The natives of America are qualified for their rights, for example, the right to speak freely and opportunity of decision however with regards to their sexuality or sex character, their opportunities are restricted whether by law or by a mans sentiment. Despite the fact that there are rights that are law, it doesnt mean the general population would comply with the laws in like manner. Segregation and provocation against transgender and individuals of an alternate sexuality is regular among individuals younger than twenty-five. Studies demonstrates that around forty-nine percent of transgender individuals younger than twenty-five have endeavored suicide since they were bugged. In addition, to the fact that students have blended sentiments there are guardians who restrict enabling transgender understudies to pick their restroom and game group to join. Guardians stress that there could be sure criminal action if transgenders were permitted to pick which restroom to utilize, however the law mirrors the cutting edge times and calls for change. Stresses over having transgenders pick their own restrooms or locker room is keeping them from having the suspicion that all is well and good and significance that they should feel inside their schools. A declaration from a teen transgender kid from Manteca, California demonstrates that all he needs is to not be discouraged from similar alternatives that typical secondary school young men at his school get, I simply need to be dealt with equivalent to the various young men my school compels me to take a rec center class with all young ladies disregards me feeling secluded (Yan). Although there are stresses of enabling tr ansgenders to pick their restrooms; transgender are nationals of America and merit similar chances, for example, picking which sport group to partake in or which restroom and/or locker space to use, as different subjects. They are being estranged and all they need is to have the capacity to have similar options, for example, bathroom rights, accessible to them. To elaborate more on the transgender bathrooms throughout the years, and how societies perspectives of life have changed; our laws have turned out to be more strict. Presently they are attempting to pass the transgender restroom law.Why would this law need to be passed? What individuals will it help? On the off chance that the law passes it isnt going for long, and it wont be something to be thankful for. What do other individuals think about this law? In the event, that individuals truly need the transgender restroom law to pass, quite possibly this will change that. Transgender restrooms are dull and hazardous. What sort of individuals would need the law to pass? What are transgender restrooms? For what reason would individuals require transgender washrooms when there s two as of now? As indicated by Unisex Public Restrooms, transgender is the point at which you have a craving for being the contrary sex. In the event that theyre homosexual they can go into the female s restrooms. A similar thing likewise goes for females, on the off chance that they crave being guys today. They can utilize the male restrooms. It doesnt matter on the off chance that they are dressed like the contrary sex. They should simply have a craving for being the contrary then they can go into that restroom. That is the reason the vast majority need a unisex washroom. How hazardous is it to be in the restroom with inverse sex? How hazardous is it to run in the restroom with the contrary sex? In the face of these steps forward for the transgender community, a political and legal backlash began in earnest in 2015. On November 3, 2015, voters in Houston, Texas voted to repeal a local anti-discrimination ordinance that forbade discrimination based on gender identity after vigorous campaigning warned voters that the law would allow male sexual predators to follow little girls into girls bathrooms to assault them (Archibald). A few people trust that it is sheltered. But, it wouldnt be right to have any young or older lady go into the mens restroom. Needless to say transgendered individuals in America have made numerous extraordinary steps since the 1990s. They have experienced brutality, absence of human services, and the loss of homes, employments (as I mentioned before), family and companions. There have been numerous periods of the battle of being transgender in America throughout the years. The present stage we should be in now is equivalent rights. There are numerous varieties of victimization the transgendered network. In our general public we basically dont care for what we dont get it. It is less demanding to segregate than to attempt and get it. We are altogether made extraordinary and we ought to value our disparities. The change must stop by tending to the perspectives of people in general. There is much support in the unequal privileges of transgendered people groups. Researchers have been reproachful of the therapeutic foundations and states contribution in building and policing of transgender character. These sort s of squeezing issues have possessed the little existing writing. There isnt much data and examining what is being done on transgender in customary zones, family considers look into, for example, their dating conduct and development of private connections in adulthood. There is little research on the issues around being guardians, their youngsters encounters with having transgendered guardians, and connections in the family overall, and connections in work and school. Sports have been separated of society since the start of recorded history. Sports have additionally been isolated in sexual orientations for quite a long time due to the physical and mental uniqueness of the two sexes. Until we can begin to consider the ethical dilemmas of gender testing for intersex and transgender athletes in the same conversation, we will never be able to fully examine the range of ethical liabilities for all women athletes. While the logic commonly used to defend the respective interests of intersex athletes and trans-women athletes is often at loggerheads, the needs and sensitivities of each population are frequently very similar(Wahlert). These individuals take pride in games. In a few families and to networks sports are imbedded in their social framework; it is vital to their characters. Sports are extremely convention based occasional, runs, and even clothing. This has made ceremonies in games simple to go down from age to age. Despite the fact that occasions and society has changed tenets, customs, and moderate people have not. There is one specific case in the realm of golf that shows this point impeccably. Looking back and doing some deep digging, come to find in 2015, around twenty-one transgender individuals had been casualties of deadly viciousness in the Joined States, a bigger number of killings of transgender individuals than some other year on record. More transgender individuals were killed in the initial a half year of that current year than in all of 2014. While it wasnt said no one knows any numerous insights concerning those unfortunate casualties encounters, investigate demonstrates that transgender individuals confront provocation and segregation in various settings for the duration of their lives. People have come to realize that the odds of confronting segregation, badgering and savagery increment exponentially for transgender ladies of shading, who likewise confront bigotry and sexism. For some transgender ladies of color, the danger of brutality is steady, and there are barely any spots they feel safe. Transgender individuals must be upheld in light of the fact that they are people who have numerous gifts that will bolster and look after society. And, when an individual considers themselves male or female, its called sexual orientation personality, so everybody has a sexual orientation character. The vast majority s sex character coordinates their life structures. In any case, the individuals who are transgender feel not the same as their physical appearances. Society today views transgender as a character issue. The word transgender can be utilized by individuals who wear t sense that theyre either one hundred percent male or female. Schools need to recognize transgender identities more. Transgender students all over the America are battling as they endeavor to fit in at their school. As transgender mindfulness is ending up more known to people in general, their issues are winding up increasingly self-evident. Schools should put more exertion into setting rules and changing the school condition so these understudies feel more acknowledged. With more transgender and sexual orientation non conventionalist students coming out, it is winding up progressively essential that schools focus on their issues feeling acknowledged in their classrooms. Some accept, be that as it may, this isnt fundamental and are against supporting transgender adolescents, yet that is disregarding an understudys convictions and personality. In spite of the sentiments against transgender rights in a school put, transgender understudies ought to be perceived as their distinguished sexual orientation as a result of the over the top tormenting t hey confront, to enable keep to down transgender suicide rates, and to make washrooms and locker rooms a more agreeable and safe condition. It is accepted by some that being transgender and reassigning of their sex sustains into a culture of self-ingestion and brokenness. In any case, LGBTQ youngsters are less inclined to be glad than their straight peers. Sexuality can be essentially characterized as a persons ability for sexual emotions. Then again personality, for this situation, sex character is a mans self-origination of being either male or female dependent on his or her relationship with the ladylike of manly sexual orientation jobs. Individuals might be separated and be misled dependent on their view of sexuality and character, particularly on the off chance that they neglect to adjust to the societal standards and desires (Beemyn, 2012). Diverse societies have distinctive perspectives and translations of sexuality and sexual movement. This, along these lines, implies that distinctive social orders have differing standards that are set up in an offer to strengthen the social arrangement of sexuality that is regarded as worthy (Widmer, Treas Newcomb, 1998). Appear and Clark (2006) contends that there are explicit characteristics that individuals credit to individuals of a specific sexual orientation personality. For this situation, the creators contend that much of the time the guys are related to character qualities, for example, forcefulness, apathetic, legitimate, unpleasant, gruff, messy, direct, and dynamic. Among others. Up to this point, the issues and even presence of a transgender network have been to a great extent out of the general population eye. But, how improved comprehend is this market? One has to work together and have legitimate every day cooperation with the Trans people group, one must put must put time into conveying in a way that is as tolerating as could reasonably be expected. As indicated by transgender lady Caitlyn Jenner on her show I Am Cait, the transgender issue is the place the gay issue was twenty years back. Individuals who fall under the umbrella of Trans have diverse correspondences that they lean toward. So as to comprehend this network we should initially understand the best possible pronouns. Likewise, we should have the capacity to take a gander at the diverse parts of the Trans people group, which incorporate genderqueer. This may appear to be new to individuals new to the network, however they are digging in for the long haul so the world must adjust to them.

Essay On City Planners - 1042 Words

Those moving from big cities to smaller cities like College Station could have trouble adjusting to the lifestyle and surrounding environment at first. Since College Station and Bryan cities are mainly the second home to thousands of college students, therefore, city planners did not focus much on the entertainment aspect for the people that live here. The main entertainment that college students would be able to enjoy around here is going to the cinema during the weekends. Unlike small, growing cities like College Station and Bryan, big cities like Austin, Dallas and Houston are often act as magnets that attract many businesses to come to the city. The reason that businesses show up to big cities was because they know for sure that their†¦show more content†¦After observing and collecting the demographic data using U.S. Census, we then compared the data to the city of Austin’s demographic data. By comparing the City of College Station and Bryan to the city of Austin, urban planners would be able to determine whether Dave and Buster’s would be successful if they open a new location here. The reason that Austin was used as the standard measurement was because there is a Dave and Buster’s in Austin that is successfully attract people from a variety range of age. First, we looked at the areas’ population. Based on the U.S. Census collected in 2010, the total population in the city of College Station is 93,857 people and the total population in the city of Bryan is 76,201 people. Compared to Austin, the combined population of both the City of College Station and the City of Bryan is approximately six times the Austin’s population. Based on this factor alone, we could say that the Dave and Buster’s does have the potential of being successful in the areas of College Station and Bryan. However, other factors should be taken in consideration before making any final decision. The second factor that we used is the age groups among the cities. Looking at different age groups in the community is critical because businesses are often provide services to only a certain amount of age groups. For example, it is not appropriate to have an amusement park in a community where theShow MoreRelatedTheory on Urban Planning1389 Words   |  6 PagesI Introduction Urban planning is the difficult and often frustrating business of trying to design cities that are livable and safe. When city neighborhoods decay, civic leaders often turn to urban planners with the hope that they can revitalize and reenergize the area. Sirius XM Financial Analysis free essay sample

In the previous project assigned to me, I completed a SWOT analysis of Sirius XM Radio where it was noted that the Sirius XM is firmly at the top of its industry. For the purposes of this project, I went through the financial statements of Sirius XM as well as computed several key financial ratios to indicate Sirius XM’s profitability, growth, performance, and efficiency amongst other things. I then compared these ratios to the industry averages as well as with Sirius XM’s top competitors. After completing this close analysis, I found that although Sirius XM is enjoying incredible growth and a strong place in the market, there are still several flags that an investor should still note. The very first fact that I noticed about Sirius XM’s radios financial statements was its incredibly large revenue. When compared to its competitors, there is essentially no competition, with Sirius XM posting revenues of over $3 billion for each of the past two years. The closest competitor to Sirius in the radio broadcasting market in terms of revenue was Cumulus Media, which had posted revenues just over $1 billion in 2012 and $550 million in 2011. Sirius XM has also shown consistent growth of its revenue since the merger in 2008. Over the past 3 years Sirius XM has seen its revenue grow by 14%, 7%, and 13%, which can is a significant amount due to the fact that Sirius XM’s revenues are in the billions. In addition to the growth in revenue, Sirius XM has seen a consistent growth in net income over the years as well. One issue with these facts that I quickly noticed upon analyzing the financials of Sirius XM is that Sirius XM relies heavily on subscribers to post its revenue. The subscription revenue accounts for over 85% of Sirius XM’s total revenues. As stated in the previous analysis of Sirius XM, it relies heavily on the auto industry for its subscribers, with new cars or leases usually coming with a pre-paid membership to Sirius XM radio. Sirius must give a share of its subscription revenue to certain auto manufacturers, which they book as an expense instead of deducting it from its revenues. This share accounts for roughly 18-20% of its subscription revenues and about 15-16% of its total revenues. Another issue that stuck out to me was the high costs that Sirius XM incurred. Sirius XM has a low retention rate when it comes to subscribers so its sales and  marketing costs (over $200M) , as well as its subscriber acquisitions costs (over $400M) are extremely high due to the fact that it is constantly marketing for new subscribers. This greatly affects the net income of the company. This flaw was not reflected in the 2012 income statement because Sirius XM received a tax benefit of almost $3 billion as a result of previous years of operating losses. This tax benefit greatly skewed some of the financial ratios of Sirius XM because it was a one-time tax benefit that will not happen again, and net income will surely decrease in 2013. Despite these facts, Sirius XM is still a profitable company that shows no signs of being in financial danger. When compared to competitors such as Cumulus Media, and Dial Global Inc., Sirius XM boasts a higher operating (26%) and gross margin percentage (64%), with both percentages consistently growing as well. This shows that although Sirius is posting huge revenues with high costs, it is still able to maintain consistent growth, especially when compared to its competitors. It should however be noted that if one were to take into account the revenue share that Sirius XM records as an expense, the gross margin percentage would decrease by about 6%. Another ratio that I calculated that I found to be equally important was Sirius XM’s debt to equity ratio, which has been significantly dropping. It went from 15.85 in 2010 to 0.61 in 2012, which means that Sirius XM is no longer heavily relying on debt to finance its activities. This is a clear indicator that Sirius XM will have a higher return on assets, which has also been steadily improving over the years, than its competitors. Sirius XM also proves that it can, for the most part, meet its short-term obligations by boasting a current ratio of 0.79. Sirius XM’s current ratio is relatively low because of its strong operating cash flow (over 800M). Just like the debt to equity ratio, this low current ratio can also mean a higher return on assets for Sirius XM. It should however be noted that, when I calculated the quick ratio, I took into account the quick ratio with accounts receivable (0.78) and without accounts receivable (0.32). One glaring issue that I found in the notes to the financial statements of Sirius XM radio is the fact that Liberty Media owns over 50% of Sirius XM radio. Because of this fact, Liberty Media owned all of Sirius XM’s Series B Preferred Stock. In September of 2012, Liberty Media converted over 6 million of these shares into over a billion shares of common stock, which no doubt affected Sirius  XM’s earnings per share as well as price to earnings ratio. It should also be noted that in January 2013, Liberty Media converted the rest of its Series B Preferred Stock into common stock as well, which will further affect earnings per share. Overall, Sirius XM is a profitable company, but I am unsure of how much longer Sirius XM will be able to sustain such profitability simply because of its reliance on the auto industry and new customers. Sirius XM’s low retention rate shows that there is no loyalty among its customers, which to me means that on any given day it can suffer serious losses.

No Nukes Just Freedom essays

No Nukes Just Freedom essays The United States Government should not be allowed to dump or store nuclear waste on Native American Reservations. In the quest to get rid of nuclear waste the Native Americans have been greatly affected. The government has ignored and broken past treaties with the Native Americans, and blurred the definition of sovereignty between nations. Also our government has and still attempts to bribe the tribes to obtain dumping, and storing privileges on reservation lands. Many view the injustices done to the Native Americans regarding treaties to be something strait out of a history book, however many people from many tribes of Native Americans are still battling today for rights granted to them by past treaties. These rights are still being denied to them today. Nuclear waste storage is one of the major issues under discussion. This is the government's latest way to break treaties with the Native Americans, for example the proposed storage site for nuclear waste, Yucca Mountain. The US Government has tried numerous times to bribe the Shoshone people into permitting them to turn Yucca Mountain into a radioactive dump site. The Shoshone have been fighting the government with the argument that they would rather be poor and have clean land than have their pockets full but their land polluted beyond repair. The whole subject of dumping on reservation land has played a major role in the blurring of the Native American sovereignty. Although this independence is a simple concept, the government has twisted and corrupted all of its policies so bad that even the politically savvy cannot decrypt it. By ignoring treaties and treating reservation land as their own for nuclear dumping the government has ripped Native American independence to shreds. Which does not mean much since the US Governments view on this independence is that the only reason they have their independence is because we allow them to. No Nati ...

Romantic Period Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Romantic Period - Essay Example Beethoven, probably the most famous composer in all of history, is more difficult to place. His first compositions are unmistakably Classical in style. However, his later works, which includes the majority of his most celebrated compositions, is just as unmistakably Romantic. Music from the Romantic Era is characterized by more heavier, graver textures with intrepid dramatic distinctions. Very extremely emotional, this style of music gave more liberty in arrangement and design for the composers to work on. It expressed a more penetrating personal manifestation of emotion in which imagination, creativity and a pursuit for adventure play a significant role. Romantic music is not as dependent on repetition as it was did in the Classical period. The music frequently directly told a story. In the Romantic era, music developed philosophical or poetic implication. Antiquity, folktale, history and striking cultures were observed as likely sources of vision and

Gene Autry Museum Visit Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Gene Autry Museum Visit - Essay Example time passed by, the center has increasingly expanded its performance to involve some emphases on other Westerners like Asians, Mexicans, African Americans, and Native Americans (Lemanczyk 2007, 50). At present, the center’s primary emphasis is on the union or meeting points of cultural practices in the American West. The Autry National Center is a museum of American West’s history, with collections and displays of relics and art works from the historical age of White imperialism in the 19th century, and it is also regarded a museum of symbols, myths, and images of the West, with quite a few masterpieces by Western artists, and a broad array of Western goods, mementos, costumes, etc. The center houses a research department which routinely conducts special expositions and events, and makes publications. Undoubtedly, the center is the leading museum of the American motion picture. . Â   In spite of the alienation I felt when I entered the center and being welcomed by the full-size imitation of Gene Autry, the center is, without a doubt, dedicated to the American West, particularly to cowboys and Native Americans. The center, apparently, has witnessed the honing of its vision and the expansion of its performance as it has struggled to become a site where the legends of the American West would occupy an important part in American history. Nevertheless, as I have observed, in spite of the committed hard work of Autry there was a very obvious dilemma. Several of the center’s visitors erroneously thought that Indians basically died out. The solution to this dilemma was easy, that is, to allow living Indians express and exhibit their own cultural history. One of the most remarkable and memorable exhibits I have seen in the center is the ‘reservation’, and although not all American Indians have went through this historical period, it is a site of legendary importance in the perception of American Indians. Several Natives who grew up in cities have an idealized

Personnel Management and Organizational Behavior Essay Example for Free

Personnel Management and Organizational Behavior Essay Four ways to shape employee behavior are: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment, and extinction. Positive reinforcement is following a reaction with something enjoyable (Robbins Judge, 2007). Employees need recognition for exceeding the organization’s standard on job performance. A well-organized reward program will motivate employees to excel the organization’s standard. Example of this are: employee of the month, quarter or year, and recognitions to employees for presenting ideas to improve the organization’s operation. Negative reinforcement is also referred as â€Å"looking busy†. Supervisors should explain the task to the employee, provide necessary resources, and ensure the work is performed to standard. These actions will help eliminate negative reinforcement. Punishment and knowing the organization’s standard are directly related. The organization’s standard, duties and responsibilities of the employees have to be established in order to hold employees accountable for their incorrect behavior. Punishment can be used as the way to unsure employees follows the standard. The different type of punishments have to be included in the workplace policy to ensure the employee knows what could happen if he/she does not follow the standard. Extinction is a behavior not reinforced, causing it to disappear (Robbins Judge, 2007). Adequate supervision and communication in the workplace are two key elements to assess this behavior and eliminate when is not needed. Managers have to develop ways to shape employee’s behavior in order to improve performance. Shaping the employee’s behavior starts with adopting practice that encourage employees to be responsible, loyal, and committed to an organization’s goal (â€Å"Strategic Planning in the Payroll Department†, 2007). Some of these practices include setting standards, establishing duties and responsibilities, and direct supervision. Discuss the three components of an attitude. The main components of an attitude are: cognitive, affective, and behavioral. Cognitive component is a consciously held opinion or belief (Colborn, 2007, p. 68), such as â€Å"sexual harassment is wrong†. Managers should enforce values, high standard, group and cultural behavior awareness to improve the working environment. The affective component is the emotional tone or feeling of an attitude (Colborn, 2007): â€Å"I don’t like Charles, because he harasses his female employees†. Leaders should maintain open communication with their employees to let them express their feelings and emotions. Behavioral component is the intent to behave in a certain way toward something or someone (Robbins Judge, 2007), such as â€Å"I’m going to avoid Charles because of his improper conduct†. This action could cause problems in the work group and if not handle properly it will set a bad example to the employees. In conclusion leaders should understand the components of an attitude in order to establish means to avoid these in the working environment. Enforcing values, high standards, open communication and continues supervising are key to success. How is bounded rationality related to decision making? Bounded rationality is defined as making decisions by constructing simplified models that extract the essential features from problems without capturing all their complexity (Robbins Judge, 2007, p. 161). This concept used a method where a satisfactory solution is obtained in stade of the optimal solution. This approach is driven by previous experiences, limited information and selecting the first solution that satisfies the constraints. Decision-making process is a detail process to obtain the best solution. During this process all alternatives and courses of action are considered and evaluated completely. This approach consumes time and resources because every alternative has to be evaluated in order to obtain the best solution. In my opinion the decision-making process should be exercise as much as possible in order to obtain the optimum solution to a problem. Leaders should be aware of both approaches and select one based on time, safety concerns, priority of the task, and resources available. What is a quality circle? Quality circle is a work of employees and supervisors, who meet regularly to discuss their quality problems, investigate causes, recommend solutions, and take corrective actions (Robbins Judge, 2007, p. 237). A successful quality circle should include the following: a comptroller, individual assignment, tentative times, progress report, implementation and performance monitoring. The comptroller will be in charge of conducting the meetings, keeping record of the problems, progress and implementation. Problems should be brainstorm by the group and assigned to the best qualify employee. Each problem should have a tentative time to obtain a solution. During each meeting a progress report is required in order to ensure timely solution of the problem. Implementing the solution and monitoring its performance will ensure employee’s satisfaction and develop credibility to the quality circle. The end statement of the quality circle is to fix problems in the organization.

extinction of great apes :: essays research papers

The great apes are humankind’s closest relatives. Great apes include gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, and bonobos, which are also known as pygmy chimps. At the turn of the century, there were approximately one million chimpanzees in Africa. This number has declined down to 150,000. Mountain gorillas have halved in size over the last ten years, leaving only 320 to roam the trees of their homeland. Some say these great apes will face extinction within a decade. Why is this the case and should we let this happen? These apes lose areas of habitat on a daily basis. They are also constantly slaughtered for meat and body parts. These two enormous contributors of great ape depletion are just unnecessary additional threats to the existence of our relatives. We must not forget that there is also disease and environmental catastrophes that kill off these intelligent human-like primates. Humans share up to 98% of their DNA. This makes the great apes a very valuable and important subject for study. There is a lot we can learn from them. Because we are so closely related, this may also be a link to global extinction. Perhaps a more thorough evaluation of each of the factors which contribute to the depletion of the four great apes may help to understand how damaging and unnecessary this depletion has become for them, as well as for us. Loss of Habitat   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One of the most influential causes for the mass decline in great apes is due to habitat loss. Habitat loss includes the clearing out of forests for agriculture, timber extraction, and fuel wood. The orangutan may be in the most trouble because of this. The last large groups of these primates are located in the large rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia. These forests are currently being destroyed by illegal loggers, planters, and also by forest fires. Many of these fires seem to be started by plantation owners. The act of logging is not just about taking down a few large trees. It is about stealing all of their resources. Great apes use their environment to build tools and to eat. If we continue to take away their primary food source, they are sure to die off. In addition to destroying their food resources, logging creates islands of rainforest. Cutting down trees, leaves gaps of open area. This causes an isolation of the great ape population.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The gap caused by logging also is a common cause of these rainforest fires.

Post Partum Depression Essay

ABSTRACT   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Every woman who becomes a mother has their own reasons of being happy after giving birth to a child. The first days of a child in their arms seems to be the greatest gift that they have ever received in their entire lives. However, things at times turn out uneasily different as the view of the mother to her new born child and at times even towards her husband changes. At some point, she treats the people visiting her in a wrong manner. Being overly anxious about things and extremely depressed in either the morning or the evening becomes her usual reaction to the things happening around her. Is she going crazy? No, she is simply experiencing Post Partum Depression. It is a matter of situation by which a new mother’s hormones are unstable that her emotions are controlled by the changes that her body undergoes after giving birth to her child. This is the main issue that shall be tackled within the paper that follows.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   How does one understand what Post Partum Depression really is? How is it supposed to be dealt with by the mother and by other people living around her? Is it a serious problem that needs medical treatment? How will the family members know when to ask for professional help? TO the women experiencing this particular matter of situation, how would they be able to overcome it? These are only among the few questions that shall be addressed in the paper that shall be presented herein. Through the discussions that shall be noted in this paper, the importance of addressing the matter shall be noted clearly as to how the procedures of dealing with the issue could be practically applied in actual situations. POST PARTUM DEPRESSION: Dealing With the Ups and Downs of New Motherhood Introduction   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The wonder of giving birth is something that is considered as a given gift solely to the feminine gender of the human population. However, the after effects of this particular wonder also belong solely to the women. What is it that makes giving birth a highly depressive matter for some women? This is where the issue of Post Partum Depression comes into light. Undeniably, the process of dealing with this issue is something that needs careful attention not only be the women involved in the situation but also by the people living around them. The term â€Å"postpartum depression† refers to depressive episodes following childbirth. These can occur after the birth of any child, not just the first. Depressive episodes can even follow a miscarriage or termination of a pregnancy. According to the Office on Women’s Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there is a wide range in the severity of the symptoms. Many women experience postpartum blues, or baby blues, characterized by mild sadness, anxiety, irritability, fluctuating moods, and fatigue. These blues are considered normal and are short-lived, resolving themselves without medical help within about ten days after childbirth. However, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates that in 1 out of 10 new mothers, these feelings escalate and go beyond the first few days. They can even appear several months after the birth. This may be full-fledged postpartum depression, in which the feelings of sadness, anxiety, or despair are so intense that the new mother has trouble coping with her daily tasks. Additionally, between 1 and 3 new mothers in every 1,000 suffer from an even more severe form of depression called postpartum psychosis, in which the mother has delusions or hallucinations that often focus on hurting herself or her baby. This latter condition requires immediate medical attention. There is no single clearly defined cause of postpartum depression. Both physical and emotional factors seem to be involved. One physical factor may be that in the first 24 to 48 hours after delivery, estrogen and progesterone levels drop sharply, to a point lower than before conception, creating an abrupt change in the physiological state of the body. This may trigger depression in much the same way as mood swings and tension are triggered before menstrual periods. The level of hormones produced by the thyroid may also drop after childbirth. This could result in symptoms that mimic depression. For these reasons researchers are calling PPD a â€Å"biochemical and hormonal disorder.† Interestingly, one medical newsletter suggests that postpartum depression may be caused by a nutritional imbalance, perhaps a B-complex deficiency. Fatigue and lack of sleep can also play a role. Says Dr.  Steven I. Altchuler, a psychiatrist at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, U.S.A.: â€Å"In the period shortly after childbirth, lack of energy and an inability to sleep may make minor problems seem much more major. Some women might be frustrated to find that they have difficulty coping with things that they had handled well before delivery, without the baby blues, and with a full night’s sleep.† Emotional factors such as an unplanned pregnancy, a premature birth, loss of freedom, concern about attractiveness and lack of support can also add to depression. Additionally, there are several common myths about being a mother that can contribute to a woman’s feeling depressed and feeling that she is a failure. These include the idea that motherhood skills are instinctive, that bonding should be immediate, that the baby will be perfect and never fussy, and that the new mother should be perfect. In real life this is not the case. Mothering skills need to be learned, bonding often takes time, some babies are easier to care for than others, and no mother is perfect or a super mom. Obviously from this particular overview of the situation, post partum depression stands as a common thing that is experienced by women who have given birth to young infants. As common as it is, the situation is indeed something that could be dealt with conscientiously. Through the process of understanding the situation towards the process of making amends with the person dealing with the dilemma, the problem with Post Partum Depression could be won. Methodology and Result Presentation   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   To understand how women affected by Post partum Depression react towards the problem, the researcher of this paper decided to interview at least 20 women who have just given birth with at least three days from the actual delivery of their babies. This interview-survey has been delivered by the researcher to finally give a lighter view of the dilemma that women deal with after giving birth to their infants.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The interviewees consisted of both first time mothers and experienced mothers alike so as to set the matter of differences and similarities between the cases that needs concern in the issue of dealing with PPD [Post Partum Depression]. Until recently, postpartum depression was often not taken seriously. Dr.  Laurence Kruckman points out: â€Å"Women’s mental health issues have been overlooked and labeled in the past as hysteria, not worthy of concern. The American Psychiatric Association’s diagnostic manual (DSM  IV) has never fully acknowledged the presence of postpartum illness, and as a result, doctors have not been educated about it nor has reliable data been obtained. .  .  . And unlike 30 years ago, mothers often go home from the hospital within 24 hours. Most postpartum psychoses, blues and some depression occur within three to 14 days following birth. So the mothers are already at home and not screened by professionals who know the symptoms.† However, according to Dr.  Carol E. Watkins of the Northern County Psychiatric Associates in Baltimore, Maryland, if left undiagnosed or untreated, postpartum depression can lead to long-term depression and difficulty in bonding with the baby. Depressed mothers may passively ignore their baby’s needs or, conversely, lose control and use physical punishment to discipline their infants. This can negatively affect the cognitive and emotional development of the child. For example, an article in the journal American Family Physician suggests that young children of depressed mothers perform more poorly on cognitive tests than those of mothers who were not depressed. Additionally, postpartum depression can adversely affect the other children and the husband.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Furthermore the results of the interview-survey used in this research yielded the following diagrammatic presentations. To understand the issue clearly, the illustrations are to be presented as follows: The Elements of POST PARTUM DEPRESSION: DIAGRAM 1:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Explanation:   From the diagram noted herein, it is noticeable enough that the women involved with Post Partum Depression deal with different anxieties causing the situation to worsen. Being overly anxious about not being cared about and being less treated well by the other members of the family because of the arrival of the new infant is indeed a matter of elemental factor that brings a greater pressure on the mother experiencing PDD.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   This is the major reason why dealing with the issue involves not only the woman or her husband alone but also the other members of the family as well. The following points are considered to be among the most effective procedures of dealing with the dilemma according to the studies that had been made under the topic of Post Partum Depression. The said points of consideration are as follows: Talk to someone about your feelings, particularly other mothers. Ask others to help you with child care, household chores, and errands. Ask your husband to share in nighttime feeding duties and household chores. Find time to do something positive for yourself, even if it is for only 15 minutes a day. Try reading, taking a walk, taking a relaxing bath. Even if you can get only one thing done in any given day, this is a step in the right direction. There may be days when you cannot get anything done. Try not to be angry with yourself when this happens.   Isolation often perpetuates depression. Get dressed, and leave the house for at least a short while each day. Fresh air and a change of scenery will do you and your baby a lot of good. These particular patterns of dealing with the situation needs to be carefully understood by the person themselves. This means that the adjustment must come from the mother herself. What can be done? Do you just have to tough it out? It is comforting to know that postpartum depression has been found to be both temporary and treatable. While rest and family support may be all that is needed for mild symptoms, the key sign that medical attention is necessary is if the depression disrupts your ability to function, says the Office on Women’s Health. Common treatments are antidepressant medication, talking with a mental-health expert, hormone treatment, or a combination of these, depending upon the severity of the case. Kangaroo, or skin-to-skin, care of the baby may also lessen maternal depression. There are also such alternative treatments as herbs, acupuncture, and homeopathic remedies. However, there are some things that you can do personally to cope. These include eating a nutritious diet (including fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain cereals); avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and sugar; exercising in moderation; and taking a nap when your baby is asleep. Since a major factor in postpartum depression is lack of proper rest, other people can help by assuming some of the household chores and sharing in child care. Studies show that far less postpartum depression occurs where the extended family rallies around to provide support and instruction. Many times a person can be of great assistance by just being a sympathetic listener, giving the new mother reassurance, and avoiding criticizing or judging. Remember, PPD is a physical disorder and is not self-induced. As the organization Postpartum Education for Parents points out, â€Å"a woman cannot ‘pull herself together’ any more than she could if she had the flu, diabetes, or heart disease.† From the foregoing, it can be seen that although the postpartum period can be a wonderful time for new mothers, it can also be stressful. Understanding it can help us to give the support new mothers need. The Use of Hoe Massage Therapy   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Every massage therapy is supposed to make close amends with the situation of the persons being affected by post partum depression. A touch therapy such as that of massage could play a great help for those suffering from the dilemma. Undoubtedly, the Hoe massage therapy which is a Japanese originated massage procedure is sure to make a sufferer of post partum depression feel relaxed as it rejuvenates the being of a person through natural scents and aroma therapy altogether. The holistic process of massaging the body would make the patient feel relived and rejuvenated to face another day of turmoil.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In short, the hoe massage is an undoubted process that is now being applied to most patients undergoing the effects of Post Partum Depression. Such patients who have   experienced this massage have given considerable reactions that they were certainly given the best approach of healing that they could ever imagine through the Hoe Massage Therapy applied on them for several weeks and even months. They even said that when they feel stressful, even when the postpartum dilemma is over, they resort to how massage therapy just the same to calm things down and bring their spirit to a renewed state. Conclusion   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Understanding Post Partum Depression is a vital part in dealing with the dilemma that new mothers mostly deal with. The after birth depression among new mothers, both first time and non-first-timers have naturally brought problems to new families. Not understanding the situation underlying this particular matter would make things certainly confusing as the mother would naturally require the same level of attention that is further given by the father or other members of the family to the newly born infant. Scheduling activities and providing further assistance with that of the relaxing time of the mother should be given close attention by the family members.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Understandably, Post Partum Depression is a matter of situation that could be dealt with through the application of full control of the situation with ample patience and understanding from the people involved. Constant understanding of the situation with the application of the necessary measures needed to treat the dilemma should be well viewed so as to bring fine results to the mother of the child and the other family members as well. Through this, the development of the dilemma could be expected to yield fine results on the part of the woman or the mother overcoming the dilemma brought about bu Post Partum Depression.
